Nigeria – The Ado Odo/Ota All Progressive Congress, APC, Local Government Chairmanship Screening Committee has denounced rumors circulating in the social media about an alleged physical assault on the Local Government Party Chairman during their recently concluded screening exercise.
The committee in a statement by its Secretary, Chief Olusesan Fagbayi stated categorically that the allegations are entirely false and baseless.
The statementreads: “At no time during the committee meeting on Sunday, August 18, 2024, did any member of the committee engage in or witness any form of physical confrontation.
“Furthermore, it is important to clarify the role and mandate of the screening committee. The committee was tasked solely with the responsibility of screening candidates for the upcoming Local Government Chairmanship election. At no time was the committee given any mandate to vote or elect any candidate out of those who were screened last week. Therefore, the issue of voting could not and did not form any part of the committee’s agenda.
“As leaders and members of our great party, the APC, we acknowledge that sentiments and preferences are natural, but we should strive to avoid actions that could potentially cause unnecessary tension within the party. It is our collective responsibility to promote unity among party members and to focus on the common goal of ensuring the continued success and growth of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ado Odo/Ota.
“We urge all members of our great party and the general public to disregard these unfounded rumors and join us in building a peaceful and united party”.
