Nigeria – Zamfara State Police Command has arrested a member of the State House of Assembly and a former local government chairman in connection with the crime.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Dalijan, who disclosed this during a meeting with the officer in charge of the Counter-terrorism Unit, under the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Thomas Parker, at the command Headquarters in Gusau, did not mention the culprits name.

CP Dalijan, while attributing the success in the fight against banditry to their collaborative efforts in flushing out suspected terrorists who migrated from Maiduguri to Zamfara, praised the ongoing efforts of security agencies and Community Protection Guards in reducing crime rates in the state.

He appealed to the United Nations for assistance in establishing a forensic laboratory in the state, citing the challenge of conducting forensic analysis in Lagos. He also sought training and support for investigation and forensic laboratories to accelerate the investigation and prosecution of suspected criminals.

The UN representative, Thomas Parker, in his remarks, acknowledged the state’s existential threats and expressed the UN’s readiness to conduct an assessment of the security situation. He emphasized the need to understand the causes and challenges to provide effective assistance in addressing the threats.
