BON Mourns Awujale Transition …says it is a passing of a Sovereign

The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, BON, has joined the Ijebu sons and daughters home and in diaspora and the entire people of Ogun State to mourn the passing of His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, the Awujale of Ijebuland, who joined his ancestors on Sunday, 13th July, 2025 at age of 91years.

According to a statement e-signed by the organization Executive Secretary, Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, the ancestral transition of the revered monarch of Ijebuland His Royal
Majesty Oba (Dr) Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, the Awujale of Ijebuland could be described as the “The Passing of a sovereign” signaling the end of a glorious era.

The organization said, “Awajule Adetona was the last monarch whose reign preceded the independence of Nigeria.

“He was the doyen of traditional rulers, a true father figure of the ljebuland, and a pride of the Yorubas who was rightly adored as Orisa ljebu.

“The influence of Awujale Adetona transcends his domain, He was a Yoruba
culture personified.

“The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria joins Ijebu sons and daughters home and in diaspora and indeed the entire people of Ogun State to mourn the passage of a royal legend.

“We pray that the Almighty God will grant him eternal rest”.
