Nigeria – The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Disu Disu has advised the youths on the dangers of cultism and drug abuse.
Disu, who made the advice in an inspiring speech at the graduation ceremony of St. Gregory College, his alma mater, urged them to avoid these pitfalls, emphasizing that involvement in such activities can ruin promising lives and destinies.
Drawing from his personal experiences, he shared, “I attended Lagos State University, and despite the challenges and temptations, I never participated in cultism or indulged in hard drugs for even a single day”.
By using himself as an example, Disu illustrated that it is entirely possible to navigate university life and achieve success without succumbing to negative influences.
He highlighted that steering clear of these detrimental activities allowed him to focus on his goals and build a career founded on integrity and discipline. His message was clear: “Cultism and drugs offer nothing but a path to destruction. Protect your future by making wise choices today”.
The event, held in the school’s historic auditorium, was well attended by proud parents, distinguished teachers, and the enthusiastic graduating Class of 2024.
CP Disu, an alumnus of St. Gregory’s, opened his speech with a sense of nostalgia and honour.
Reflecting on his experiences as a student, he emphasized the institution’s transformative role in shaping his journey.
“The rigorous academic curriculum, the camaraderie of my classmates, and the unwavering guidance of our dedicated teachers – these elements shaped me into the person I am today”, he stated.
Throughout his address, Disu highlighted the core values that St. Gregory’s instils in its students, which have been instrumental in his rise through the ranks of the Nigerian Police Force. “Integrity, discipline, and a relentless pursuit of excellence – these have been the guiding lights of my professional life”, he noted.
Now leading the Rivers State Command, Disu spoke of the pride and responsibility he feels in his role. He expressed his confidence in the graduating students, encouraging them to shoulder their future responsibilities with the same dedication and tenacity.
“Whether you choose to pursue higher education, enter the workforce, or explore entrepreneurial endeavours, I urge you to approach every challenge with the same tenacity and commitment that has brought you to this milestone”, he advised.
He underscored the importance of the lessons learned at St. Gregory’s, emphasizing hard work, ethical decision-making, and servant leadership as cornerstones of success.
In his closing remarks, CP Disu left the graduates with a powerful message: “Be bold, be resilient, and be of service to others. Embrace the challenges that lie ahead, for it is through adversity that we grow the most. And never forget the power of your voice and your ability to inspire positive change”.
