Nigeria – The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Lanre Ogunlowo PhD, in an effort to ensure the safety and security of commuters and residents along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode–Benin Expressway, has deployed a specialized Intervention Squad to forestall criminal activities, particularly incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery.

On the 19th of March , 2025, CP Ogunlowo PhD, according to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, personally inspected the security operations at the newly established intervention post, strategically located before Odogbolu in between Celplas Industry, Mikano Generator and Ladgroup Company on the stretch of the road.

The outpost, she said, consisting of a makeshift roof shed fortified with sandbags, serves as a rapid response center for distress calls from the Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, and Owode Egba Area Commands, as well as commuters who require emergency assistance from the police.

“This calculated approach is designed to complement other security pin-down points along the expressway, ensuring comprehensive coverage. Key security deployments include: Two OP MESA security points positioned inward and outward Lagos on the Long Bridge; Shed posts with Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) at the Sagamu Interchange; Recently established makeshift security posts along the Ijebu Ode–Sagamu Highway to reassure road users of the active presence of armed policemen.

“This proactive security initiative follows an earlier surveillance operation conducted on February 27, 2025, during which the Commissioner of Police identified and blocked escape routes frequently used by kidnappers. As part of these measures, barriers have been erected to block and prevent unauthorized movement along footpaths used as getaway points. Access control measures have been implemented.

“Furthermore, to reinforce security on the expressway, a Quick Intervention Squad has been permanently stationed in the area, with additional backup teams patrolling the axis in an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) stationed at the Sagamu Intersection.

“The Ogun State Police Command remains resolute in its mission to combat crime and ensure that road users travel without fear or apprehension. Members of the public are urged to report any suspicious activities via the Command’s emergency hotlines, 08099401875 for rescue operations”, Odutola stated.
