Customs Zone ‘A’ Coordinator, ACG Yusuf, visits Idiroko, reels out CGC Adeniyi’s achievements …commends officers’ activities …lauds security agencies’ synergy

The Zone ‘A’ Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller-General Saidu Yusuf, on Thursday, 10th October, 2024 at Idiroko border control reeled out achievements of Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

ACG Yusuf who was on a working visit to Ogun Area 1 Command of the Customs under his command, also applauded the level of synergy amongst security agencies in the country, saying the collaboration is yielding desired results”.

Yusuf, who was impressed with the welcome arrangement by the Controller of Ogun Area 1 Command, Comptroller James Ojo, alongside other sister security agencies in Idiroko border town noted that all the commands he had visited, same were the receptions, and commended the leadership of various security agencies for keeping the flag flying in the interest the nation and the citizens.

Addressing them, ACG Yusuf said, “Our common goal is to provide security for the nation and her citizens; we are all to serve Nigeria. Gone are the days when Customs, NDLEA, DSS and every agency would be far apart.

“Our laws have taken into cognisance the issue that we must work together as government agencies, in order to produce result, as no agency can do it alone. So, I appreciate you all for coming here to welcome me”.

At the commissioning of the Idiroko command’s renovated clinic and officers mess, ACG Yusuf seized the opportunity and reeled out various projects embarked upon by the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

According to him, his visit was to relate the CGC’s message to officers and men of the command, “We need to let you understand that the management is doing quite a lot to ensure that the Service is positioned to a level all of us will be proud of.

“For the past one year, the CGC has been able to role out some of the World Customs Organization (WCO’s) tools, to ensure that we perform our duties effectively.

“To lift up the standard of our performance to international level, we have been able to roll out advanced ruling as well as AEO. These are some of the tools that will ensure our Service is equipped at a high level, as regards our duty”, ACG Yusuf stated.

Speaking on various welfare packages the management of the NCS had embarked on, he said they were no longer at the Board level but with the Wages Commission, adding that when implemented, “we will start seeing the result; obviously, all of us will be beneficiaries.

Some of packages, according to the Zonal Coordinator, are severance packages for retirees, housing scheme for officers and men, insurance and promotion for all cadres of the Service.

On the housing scheme, he disclosed that the CGC had launched lots of housing schemes across all the zones in the country, and urged whoever was interested to key into it through the Welfare Unit at the headquarters, to get houses of their choice.

He also spoke on the Customs Village situated in the Remo axis of Ogun, describing it as a gigantic project that would house the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’, Nigeria Customs Training College and a big library and sports complex.

Other projects currently under construction, the Zone ‘A’ building on Harvey Road in Yaba, Lagos, which is now restructured for standard buildings for officers and a 10-storey building on Warehouse Road, Apapa, where the Zone ‘A’ headquarters would be.

He, however, stressed on the imperatives of hardwork, saying, it has its positive influence on personnel’s future career in the Service, as, according to him, “it’s not unnoticed.

He also charged officers and men to always speak out in the event of any personal challenges, by presenting it before the command, “if the Area Command cannot handle it, bring it before the Zonal Command, and if we cannot solve it, we will take it to the headquarters”.
