Nigeria – Members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Citizens Liberties Committee, led by Chairman Nuhu Egya, Esq., today, Wednesday, December 4, 2024, paid a courtesy visit to the office of the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, PSC.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, their discussion centered on security in the nation’s capital.
Adeh added that, the recent ban on the use of tinted glasses by car owners was a significant topic of discussion.
The Committee, she said, appealed for a relaxation of this clampdown, highlighting concerns about privacy and the needs of citizens with eyesight complications.
On Police nvolvement in Civil Disputes, SP Adeh said, concerns were raised regarding the involvement of police officers in civil disputes, emphasizing the need for clear boundaries.
In his response, CP Disu, according Adeh, outlined the successes achieved through the clampdown on vehicles with tinted glasses, covered number plates, and vehicles without number plates.
“CP reported: 1. The identification of six different groups involved in “one chance” armed robbery and arrest of 15 one chance operators.
2. The recovery of 7 operational vehicles with tinted glasses used by one chance robbers.
3. The rescue of four victims from one chance criminal activities”, Adeh stated.
She added, “CP Disu, emphasized the positive results of ongoing operations and called for continued public support and cooperation to maintain momentum in the fight against crime.
“He expressed gratitude to the NBA Citizens Liberties Committee for their engagement and advocacy.
“He acknowledged the importance of collaboration between the Police, the legal system, and the general public in enhancing security and safeguarding citizens’ rights”.
