On this auspicious occasion of Workers’ Day, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and deep appreciation to all workers across every sector of our economy.
Today is a moment to pause and recognize your staunch dedication, tireless efforts, and invaluable contributions to the growth and development of our nation.
From the farmlands to the factories, from classrooms to corporate offices, from hospitals to construction sites your commitment keeps our economy running, our society functioning, and our dreams alive.
In the face of economic uncertainties, social transformations, and global challenges, Nigerian workers have remained resilient and adaptable. You have shown extraordinary courage and perseverance in navigating the changing dynamics of the world of work, particularly in the aftermath of recent economic difficulties and technological disruptions. Your strength continues to inspire progress and hope for a more prosperous future.
As we reflect on the past year, we acknowledge the strides made in advancing workers’ welfare. Efforts towards job creation, skills development, and improved social protection have begun to yield encouraging results. I celebrate the milestones achieved by workers in diverse industries and salute the champions of labour who have continued to advocate for fairness, dignity, and justice in the workplace.
However, we are not unmindful of the challenges that persist. The rising cost of living, job insecurity, wage concerns, access to quality healthcare, and workplace safety remain pressing issues for many. We empathize deeply with these realities and understand the urgent need for responsive action. These challenges call for deliberate policies and inclusive strategies that uplift every worker and protect the most vulnerable among us.
Looking ahead, we reaffirm our steady commitment to improving the lives and working conditions of Nigerian workers. We are focused on building a future anchored with decent work, fair opportunities, social justice, and sustainable growth.
This includes investing in skills retraining to meet the demands of an evolving labour market shaped by technology, strengthening inclusivity in the workplace, expanding social safety nets, and promoting mental health and well-being on the job.
