Nigeria – The Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has reiterated his commitment to building a strong and competitive wrestling team in the coming years.
He made this declaration during the closing ceremony of the 3rd Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, Adeniyi, who is also a board member of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, expressed his admiration for the performance of Bayelsa State’s wrestlers and promised that the Nigeria Customs Service would soon assemble a team capable of challenging the dominance of Bayelsa in the sport.
“I am thrilled by the remarkable performance of Bayelsa State’s wrestlers at this year’s Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics, and it’s clear to me that Your Excellency is equally excited by their success,” Adeniyi said.
“In the near future, I want to inform you that the Nigeria Customs Service will form a formidable wrestling team that will give Bayelsa State a real run for their money.”
Responding to Adeniyi’s comments, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State expressed confidence in his state’s continued leadership in the sport, reaffirming that Bayelsa will remain the home of wrestling.
“Bayelsa State is proud to be the home of wrestling in Nigeria, and we will continue to support and nurture the sport,” Governor Diri said.
“We welcome the challenge from the Nigeria Customs Service, and we look forward to seeing more competition and growth in the wrestling community.”
Governor Diri also commended Adeniyi for his significant investment in the sport, noting the positive transformation of the Nigeria Customs Service under his leadership.
“I must commend you, Comptroller General, for the incredible strides you’ve made in transforming the Nigeria Customs Service in such a short time,” Diri praised.
“Your efforts in promoting wrestling are a testament to your commitment to sports development in Nigeria”.
With both leaders expressing their dedication to advancing wrestling in the country, the future of the sport looks set for even more exciting competitions between Bayelsa and the newly emerging Customs wrestling team.
