Ogun Government Calls for Transparent Leadership as State NURTW Inaugurates New Executives

Nigeria – The Ogun State Government (OGSG) has emphasized the need for transparency and unity in leadership as the newly elected executive members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Ogun State Council, were inaugurated.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo made the call at the 10th Quadrennial State Delegate Conference held in NURTW State Secretariat, Abeokuta, lauding the union’s contributions to the state’s economic growth.

The Commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adesoji Adewuyi reiterated the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration’s commitment to the “Ise Ya” mantra, which underscores hard work, dedication, and excellence in driving the transportation sector forward.

“The transportation sector remains a critical pillar of our socio-economic development,” he stated. “The NURTW has been instrumental in facilitating the movement of people and goods, significantly boosting Ogun State’s economy.”, he said.

The Commissioner acknowledged the achievements of the outgoing executives, commended their efforts in laying a solid foundation for the incoming leadership. He urged the newly inaugurated executives to prioritize transparency, discipline, and collaboration in their roles.

He further called on the union’s leadership to adopt innovative strategies to address challenges like traffic congestion and road safety while ensuring the welfare of its members. Collaborative efforts with the Ministry of Transportation, he added, would help modernize and sustain Ogun State’s transport system.

In his address, the NURTW National President, Musiliu Akinsanya called for members’ support and continued guidance so that they can together set the foundation of a new and rejuvenated NURTW that will again stand the test of time. Saying, union would not condone acts that could lead to incidences of violence, loss of lives and properties.

“Those that will emerge victorious from this process must serve in such a way that demonstrates exemplary leadership, capacity and sacrifice. Both the leadership and followership must strive through a collaborative effort to turn the union fortune for the better.”, Akinsanya submitted.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected NURTW Ogun State Council, Chairman, Mustapha Adewale thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun and all officers of the union for the overwhelming support and promised to reposition the union better.

He urged all delegates to show love and commitment to the progress as well as the development of the Union.

Stakeholders and members of the NURTW present at the event pledged their support for the new executives.
