Nigeria, Ogun – In a bid to accelerate rural development and improve the standard of living of the citizens, the Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chiefaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, has officially commissioned a series of transformative projects in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of the State.
Speaking at the event at Imeko, Hon. Hamzat described the people-oriented projects as clear evidence of the Governor’s unwavering support for grassroots development through the Local Government Council leadership.
He noted that the present administration remained committed at ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every community across the State.
The Commissioner charged all other Local Government Chairmen to replicate similar developmental strides in their domains, stressing the importance of collective ownership and maintenance of public infrastructure.
“Development is a collective responsibility. I urge every citizen to take ownership of these projects, maintain and safeguard them against misuse. Together, we can ensure these legacies serve not only us but also generations yet unborn,” Hamzat said.
In his remarks, Chairman of Imeko Afon Local Government, Hon. Theophilus Olorode, described the projects as a symbol of renewed hope, progress and firm commitment to the future of the people, emphasing that his administration was guided by inclusiveness, accountability and service delivery.
“These projects are not just physical structures but life-changing interventions aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of our people. We will sustain this tempo to ensure every ward, village and community in Imeko Afon feel the positive impact of democracy,” Olorode assured.
One of the community member, Mrs. Janet Kehinde lauded the provision of lock-up shops, describing them as life-changing interventions that would boost livelihoods and increase the council’s internally generated revenue.
Similarly, Alagbede of Oke-Agbede, Oba Adewale Olorode, commended the Governor and the Local Council chairman for the projects, noting that the renovated classrooms would provide a more conducive learning environment for pupils.
The newly commissioned projects includes boreholes, lock-up shops, renovated classroom blocks and refurbished offices for supervisors and career officers.
Highlights of the commissioning featured an empowerment initiative for 200 indigent residents of Imeko Afon.
Dignitaries at the commissioning included, the Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Olanite; Onidofa of Idofa, Oba Adeyanju Joel and Alale of Moriwi, Oba James Taiwo.
