Nigeria – The present administration in Ogun State has disclosed its determination to remain focused at promoting political stability, local development and good governance at the grassroots.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, made the commitment during a personality programme in Abeokuta, saying his Ministry was not resting on its oars at enhancing grassroots leadership, adding that it would ensure that the newly sworn-in Local Government Chairmen and Councilors deliver democratic dividends and prioritise accountability.
“The Ministry is planning to organise seminars for the 20 Chairmen and 236 Councilors to equip them with necessary leadership skills”, he said.
Hamzat, further outlined key priorities for local governments to include, education, healthcare, urban planning, road maintenance, and waste management, ensuring equitable development across the state’s three senatorial districts.
He pointed out that the state government had regard for local government autonomy, clarifying that it had never interfered with LG funds, “instead, funds from the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) are allocated transparently through monthly Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meetings”.
