Nigeria – A non-profit organization, Yewa North Patriotic Forum, YNPF, in Ogun State has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address the nation before the ongoing protest escalate to full blown riot.
According to the group in a statement signed by its President and Secretary, Comrade Adeyemi Sunday and Com. Hammed Fatogun, the protests are a clear indication of the growing discontent and frustration among Nigerians, and it is imperative that the government takes immediate action to address the grievances of the people before the situation escalates further.
“The President must acknowledge the suffering of Nigerians and take concrete steps to reverse the policies that have brought hardship, hunger, starvation, and poverty to our citizens. These policies include:- Removal of electricity tariff subsidy; Floating of the naira; Fuel subsidy removal and Educational subsidy removal”.

STATEMENT FROM YEWA NORTH PATRIOTIC FORUM ON THE ONGOING NATIONWIDE PROTESTS TODAY AUGUST 1ST, 2024
Fellow Nigerians,
We, the Executive members of Yewa North Patriotic Forum following our emergency online meeting, urge President H. E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to address the nation as a matter of urgency regarding the nationwide protests that started today August 1st, 2024.
The protests are a clear indication of the growing discontent and frustration among Nigerians, and it is imperative that the government takes immediate action to address the grievances of the people before the situation escalates further.
The President must acknowledge the suffering of Nigerians and take concrete steps to reverse the policies that have brought hardship, hunger, starvation, and poverty to our citizens. These policies include:
– Removal of electricity tariff subsidy
– Floating of the naira
– Fuel subsidy removal
– Educational subsidy removal
Furthermore, we demand that the government takes immediate action to:
– Fight corruption with sincerity and transparency
– Begin full payment of the new minimum wage to all workers
– Open our international land borders to facilitate trade and commerce
– Improve internal security to fight against bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists
– Improve justice delivery to ensure that all citizens have access to fair and timely justice
We also recall our previous demands for:
– Job creation and employment opportunities to engage our teaming youths
– Investment in infrastructure and social services
– Reform of the electoral process to ensure free and fair elections
– Decentralization of power to address regional disparities
Mr. President, the time for action is now. We urge you to engage in dialogue with the protesters, listen to their grievances, and take concrete steps to address their demands. We must work together to restore trust and confidence in the government and ensure that our nation is united and prosperous.
We cannot afford to wait any longer. The fate of our nation is in your hands, Mr. President. Act now to save Nigeria from further chaos and destruction.
