Nigeria – The Owu Kingdom, nestled in the heart of Ogun State, Nigeria, recently celebrated its annual Owu Day, a momentous occasion that showcases the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Owu people.
This year’s festivities, held at the iconic Oba Adeleye Park, Ori Omi Oke Sokori in Abeokuta, was attended by an array of dignitaries like, His Excellencies, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Executive Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Ibikunle Amosun CON, FCA, former Governor of Ogun State and former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola OFR.
Addressing the media at the event, Ambassador Isola praised the Owu Kingdom’s dedication to preserving its cultural heritage.
His words: “The Owu Kingdom’s commitment to its traditions is a shining example of the importance of cultural preservation.
“It is essential that we continue to celebrate and honor our heritage, ensuring its survival for generations to come.
“The Owu Day celebration is a testament to the kingdom’s ability to bring together people from all walks of life. This annual event promotes unity, understanding and mutual respect among individuals from diverse backgrounds.
“The Owu Day celebration serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us that our diversity is our greatest strength.
“It also serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of cultural heritage and tradition.
“As we reflect on the importance of preserving our collective history, we are inspired by the Owu Kingdom’s dedication to its roots. May this celebration continue to unite and inspire generations to come”.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola FNSE, the Oluyalo Otileta VII Olowu of Owu Kingdom, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage and tradition.
“Culture is the fabric that weaves our identity, values, and history together.
“It is the foundation upon which our community is built, and its preservation is crucial for the continuity of our legacy”, Kabiyesi noted.
Owu Day 2024 was a testament to the kingdom’s commitment to celebrating its history and cultural significance.
The event brought together Owu sons and daughters, as well as those who share a passion for the cultural heritage of the kingdom. This historical gathering served as a poignant reminder of the power of community and the importance of honoring one’s roots.
