Nigeria – Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old suspected kidnapper, rapist and serial killer.
The serial killer, identified as Ogunnaike Phillips, as confirmed by the state command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola was arrested in connection to three kidnappings and murder.
According to Odutola, “on 26th May, 2024 at about 0810hrs, one late Abigel Dina ‘f’, a nurse, left her house at Iyana Egbado Ewekoro Local Government to her working place at Sodipo Medical Centre, Itori before she was kidnapped to unknown forest at Itori.
“The kidnapper robbed the victim of one Iphone XR phone and strangulated her to death. The kidnapper later contacted the victim’s family on phone, and collected the sum of fifty thousand naira as ransom.
“The suspect abandoned the corpse in the forest. One Ogunnaike Philip ‘m’ was arrested in connection to the case and he confessed to the commission of the crime.
“The suspect confessed that he fled to Saki town, Oyo state, and swabbed the stolen Iphone XR with Infinix Hot Ten with cash sum of Sixty Five thousand naira”.
Also, as stated by Odutola, “On 3rd of July, 2024 at about 1000hrs, one late Mary Ogunyemi ‘f’ aged 23yrs was sent on errand by her mother Mrs Ogunyemi Esther ‘f’ to go and buy fruits for her at Adatan from Asero Estate. Late Mary Ogunyemi ‘f’ was accompanied by the suspect, Ogunnaike Philip ‘m’. Ogunaike Philip ‘m’ was squatting with someone in the same compound with the victim.
“The suspect lured the victim to a nearby bush at Asero Estate, and invited another accomplice to join him in kidnapping the victim.
“The victim was tied down with rope and she was robbed of one Iphone S. Ogunnaike Philip ‘m’ and his accomplice jointly strangulated the victim to death.
“The two criminals later contacted the victim’s mother on phone, and collected the sum of Seventeen thousand naira as ransom.
“The duo abandoned the corpse of the victim inside the bush and fled to Badagry, Lagos State to sell off the stolen Iphone S at the rate of Eight Thousand Naira.
“The suspect, Ogunnaike Philip ‘m’ was arrested and he confessed to the commission of the crime, while his accomplice is currently at large”.
Similarly, the suspect was also linked to the death of a 17-year-old Habeebah Akinsanya who was raped and macheted to death in September.
According to Odutola, the deceased was found macheted and dead at her father’s farm around Mile 6, a community that is a few metres away from Ogun State.
Relatedly, according to Odutola, “On 30th August, 2024 at about 1700hrs, one Akinsanya Shamsudeen ‘m’ of Mile 6, Abeokuta received phone call through his daughter’s phone that his daughter late Habibat Akinsanya ‘f’ Aged 18yrs was kidnapped and he should pay ransom of one Million naira as ransom.
“The victim’s father later paid the sum of Thirty Thousand naira to the Moniepoint account number provided by the kidnapper.
“The corpse of the victim was later found inside her father’s farm land at Obasa village, Mile 6, Abeokuta, Ogun state, and her Moniepoint POS machine was found by her side.
“One Ogunnaike Philip ‘m’ was arrested in connection the case, and he confessed to the commission of the crime.
“The suspect confessed that he was working as a labourer to the victim’s father, and he was working at the farm when he sighted the victim passing by.
“The suspect lured the victim to the farm, and tied her with rope on her two legs. The suspect confessed that he raped the victim and strangulated her to death with rope.
“The suspect later led team of Policemen from Anti-kidnapping Unit to various locations where the three kidnapped victims were killed.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspect is a serial killer, and he escaped from Ibara Correctional Center about two years ago when he was taken to Magistrate Court, Isabo concerning a case of armed robbery pending before the court”.
Exhibits recovered from the suspect are; (1) I Phone XR, (2) I Phone 11; (3) Infinix Hot Ten I; (4) Moniepoint POS Machine and two black ropes.
