Nigeria – The Rivers State Police Officers’ Wives Association, (POWA) Chapter Chairperson, Mrs Disu M. Olufunmilola, wife of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu on Friday, 9th August, 2024 said, it is rewarding to be Police Officers’ Wives.
Mrs Disu made stated this during a sensitization event to mark the upcoming 60th Anniversary of POWA at the Rivers State Police Command Headquarters, Moscow Road Port-Harcourt.
Speaking on their roles as Police Officers Wives, she said, “We pray for our husbands, take care of our children and empower Police Officers widows through trainings and programmes to make them self-reliant”.
According to her, for six decades, POWA as a remarkable organization has been a testament to those who have done great deeds but receive little from law enforcement.
Mrs Disu also spoke of how they honour the strength, resilience and compassion that define the very heart of a Police wife.
She acknowledged the challenges and sacrifices associated with this noble profession; the sleepless nights, constant worries, and fear of the unknown are all the burdens they carry day in and day out.
“We are the rock upon which our indefatigable husbands can lean, the safe harbour they return to after a long and difficult shift. The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) has been a beacon of light and hope guiding us through the darkest of times, from offering emotional support and counselling services to organizing charitable initiatives and educational programs throughout the years’’, she said.
The POWA Chairperson also thanked the wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun for her unrelenting support in commemoration of the Organization’s 60th Anniversary Celebration
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc in his response noted that Police Officers’ Wives are special and unique women.
He said, “Our wives give us emotional intelligence, they advise and pray for us. The perfect and colourful parade by them today means that they learnt a lot from us. If after work your home is not conducive, you will not want to return home, therefore our wives should continue to make our homes conducive for us. A Police Officer whose home is not conducive cannot be a good Police officer’’
He went on to state “We are going to keep pictures of our wives in this amazing uniform. They know everything about us, and they are prayer warriors. Our work as Police Officers is getting tougher and tougher as the day rolls out. I want you to look at us and know when we are happy. Continue to lessen our burden he urged”.
The awarding crime buster cop, thanked the wife of the Inspector-General of Police Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun for this wonderful initiative.
The highlight of the event was colourful parade by the POWA members dressed in Police Uniform and a mock session.
