Nigeria – A vindictive butcher cum farmer who felt hurt by his thought that a particular commercial motorcyclist was having affair with his wife two months ago and decided to take his own pound of flesh, by way of killing him, has run into trouble.
The suspect, 46-year-old Ibrahim Ogunrinde, a resident of Adu Town on Ajebo Road, Mile 6, Abeokuta, Ogun State, was arrested by the state’s security outfit, the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps).
The So-Safe Corps Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo, in a press release issued on his behalf by the Corps Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf, disclosed that the suspect was arrested at Ijaiye Garage on Thursday, June 6, at about 2:30am.
According to the corps, the suspect had pretended as an intending passenger, a day prior, at about noon, and flagged down the victim, Kosu Daniel (aka Jeje), telling him to take him to Olubo Town.
Unsuspicious of his would-be passenger’s evil intention, the okada rider, apparently basking in the euphoria of making additional money for the day, stopped to pick him.
Midway into the journey, the unexpected happened; Ogunrinde played the script he had acted by stabbing the victim on the neck and arm.
He reportedly left the victim in a pool of blood and bolted with the motorcycle, apparently thinking that he would not surviving the attack.
Fate, however, played a lucky tale on “Jeje” as good samaritans came to his rescue and rushed him to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Idi-Aba, where he is currently receiving treatment.
On his arrest, the suspect confessed to committing the crime, stating that he was spurred to eliminate the victim, whom he believed had an affair with his wife two months prior.
The suspect and the recovered motorbike have been transferred to the Special Weapons and Tactical Unit (SWAT) of the Nigeria Police Force at Magbon for further investigation and likely prosecution.
Commander Ganzallo praised the efforts of the Corps in apprehending the culprit, stating that it would serve as a deterrent to other criminally-minded individuals in the society.
