In 2016, the U.S. mainstream media played a significant role in making Donald Trump a presidential candidate. Showered with unsolicited, unpaid coverage, Trump dominated the media landscape, overshadowing other capable candidates like John Kasich and Jeb Bush.

Sensationalism took precedence over substance as the media prioritized eye-catching news over the nation’s future. Journalism’s noble ethics were cast aside in a relentless chase for views. More focus was placed on Hillary Clinton’s negatives than on her qualifications.

This phenomenon stemmed from corporate control over the media, making them the true gatekeepers behind the gatekeepers. As we head into 2024, history seems to be repeating itself.

While Trump, his MAGA followers, and political figures like Mitch McConnell often garner blame, the mainstream media’s disgraceful, selective reporting should not be overlooked.

Their actions are harming the country, even if they are profitable for business.

Which should come first: the country’s well-being or the pursuit of profit?
